Saturday, Beach Day

Let me rephrase that, Saturday was BURN day. And not “burn” in the fun way like in Mean Girls (<3).

Saturday some of us decided to get our ish together early in the day and head to Rockaway Beach (an hour away via subway). I don’t think I’ve “been to the beach” in over two years… seriously. I’ve been in pools, lakes, puddles, downpours, my bathtub etc. etc. but not the beach. My affinity for beaches has oscilated throughout my lifetime and I was in the local minima (OMG MATH REFERENCE) for a while there. Sand and I just have a tricky relationship, alright?

Anyway, we went. Got there at 10:45, set up camp, frolicked in the waves and stuff. It was like that scene in The Notebook except none of us had boys’ arms to jump into and scream “I’m a bird”. Also none of us wore retro bathing suits. So, it was really nothing like The Notebook at all. It was more like Jaws Blue Crush The OC Laguna Beach … reality, I suppose.

Dude, those two people in the foreground look like bacon

Picturesque, no? We actually a little in front of the lifeguard, who thought he was The Coolest.

Our time at the beach ended when Alice and I went back to Manhattan around 1:45pm and chugged iced tea and lemonade and this poor girl’s lemonade stand on the way back to the subway. We were good customers though.

The day ended with Mashable’s Social Media party hosted down in TriBeCa which was actually super fun! Free stuff, open bar, free food, photobooth, musical performer, and a rare spotting of Pete Cashmore the Mashable CEO (social media supahstar).

We just can’t hide who we are. The flash was pretty flattering considering our sunburns. Alice even brought aloe vera with her.

GZA/The Genius (founding member of the Wu Tang Clan) performed and I found myself front row center, dancing like the semi white girl that I am.

The sun sucked all the life out of us so the night ended relatively early… not by choice. Alice and I both fell asleep while watching 30 Rock in her room, at 9pm. OMG YOLO.
